Channel your inner Indiana Jones with Festival of Archaeology

Visitors to Ayscoughfee Hall this weekend will have the chance to dig for artefacts and learn more about the history of Spalding and the fens, as part of the 2^nd annual Festival of Archaeology.

The festival, running on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July from 10.30am - 4pm, will help people learn more about "What's Beneath Your Feet" through talks and guided walks, a wide range of craft activities, live demonstrations, special exhibitions and the chance for hands-on participation with the always popular dig pits.

South Holland District Council will be running the event with Spalding Gentlemen's Society following a very popular debut in 2017. The festival is free to attend with access to the hall and gardens, although there will be small charges between 50p and £2 to take part in the craft activities.

Councillor Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for communities and facilities, said: "After the success of last year's event, it is great that the festival will be running again and give people the opportunity to find out more about the fascinating history and archaeology of Spalding and South Holland.

"Whether you want to get involved by grabbing a trowel, going exploring or even just listening to the brilliant talks, there's something on offer to make sure everyone can become their very own Indiana Jones!"
