South Lincolnshire Merchant Navy Association Branch Luncheon
Chairlady Joins Commemoration of Operation Pedestal
On Saturday 8 August 2025, the Chairlady of South Holland District Council, Councillor Jan Whitbourn, joined the Mayor and Mayoress of Boston to commemorate Operation Pedestal — a pivotal World War II mission known as the final relief of Malta, following a two-year siege and relentless air attacks by the Italian Air Force. Despite the intensity of the campaign, the Italian forces were ultimately unsuccessful, and the operation played a crucial role in sustaining Malta's resistance.

The event was held during the South Lincolnshire Merchant Navy Association Branch Luncheon, where guests gathered to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those involved in the historic convoy.
Roger Round, Secretary of the Boston & South Lincolnshire Merchant Navy Association and former Chairman of the HMT Lancastria Association, shared:

"It was a pleasure to welcome the Secretary of the Malta GC Association, Mrs Patricia Scott, who read the Collect of the Malta GC Association. We were also honoured by the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress of Boston, and our other distinguished guest, Councillor and Chairlady of South Holland District Council. Her continued support of our Branch is deeply appreciated."

The commemoration served as a poignant reminder of the courage and resilience shown during one of the most critical naval operations of the Second World War, and highlighted the importance of community remembrance and civic support.
