Celebrate the River Day brought colour and community spirit to the River Welland on Sunday, 8 June, as residents, families, and water enthusiasts gathered to enjoy a day of river-based fun and festivities.

Organised by the Welland Yacht Club in partnership with Spalding Water Taxis and The Moorings pub,

the event invited participants to paddle, sail, or float down the river in a vibrant flotilla that showcased the beauty and potential of Spalding's waterways.

The day began at the Yacht Club in Cradge Bank, where early arrivals were treated to bacon rolls and tea before setting off.

From there, a lively procession of canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and boats made its way to The Moorings,

where refreshments and entertainment—performed by Saxophonist Cllr Sam Chauhan —awaited.

The RNLI and Environment Agency were also on hand to share important river safety advice. Meanwhile, the Yacht Club hosted an open day, giving visitors the chance to try sailing under the guidance of qualified instructors.

Local MP Sir John Hayes was in attendance, showing his support for the community and the event. Councillor James Le Sage played a key role in coordinating and bringing the event to life, helping to ensure its success and community impact.
