D-Day Service at Ayscoughfee Gardens

On the morning of 6 June, the Royal Naval Association held a poignant service at Ayscoughfee Gardens in Spalding to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day. The ceremony began at 10:45am and served as a solemn tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who took part in the historic Normandy landings.

The service was led by Revd. Barbara Hutchinson, whose thoughtful words and prayers offered a moment of reflection for all in attendance.

Representing South Holland District Council, Chair , Councillor Jan Whitbourn and Councillor Gary Taylor joined the gathering to pay their respects. Councillor Jan Whitbourn laid a wreath on behalf of SHDC, alongside Councillor Gary Taylor who laid a wreath on behalf of local MP Sir John Hayes, in remembrance of the fallen. The event brought together members of the community, veterans, and civic leaders in a shared act of remembrance, underscoring the enduring significance of D-Day in the nation's collective memory.
