Commonwealth Day Flag Raising
On the 10 March 2025, Councillor Elizabeth Sneath raised the Commonwealth Flag and gave a speech to commemorate this event.
Today, we gather to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures, histories and shared values that unite the nations of the Commonwealth. As we raise the Commonwealth flag, we are reminded of the strength and unity that come from our diverse backgrounds and the common goals we strive to achieve together.

The Commonwealth is a family of 56 nations, spanning every continent and ocean, representing over 2.5 billion people. it is a testament to the power of collaboration, mutual respect, and the enduring spirit of friendship. our shared commitment to democracy, human rights, and sustainable development binds us together, fostering peace and prosperity for all.
As we hoist the flag today, let us reflect on the principles that guide us: justice, equality and the pursuit of a better future for every citizen. Let us celebrate the achievements we have made and acknowledge the challenges we continue to face. Together, we can overcome these obstacles and build a brighter, more inclusive world.

In the spirit of the Commonwealth, let us reaffirm our dedication to working together, supporting one another, and embracing the diversity that makes us stronger. may this flag serve as a symbol of our unity and our unwavering commitment to the values we hold dear.
Councillor Elizabeth Sneath thank those who attended the flag raising event.
