South Holland District Council's Chairlady, Councillor Jan Whitbourn, chose her three charities to support during her term in office, following her election as Chairlady back in May of this year.

The charities the Chairlady has chosen are all local organisations within the district: The Spalding Lions, The Spalding Round Table and Project St. Thomas.

The Spalding Lions are a charity dedicated to providing help and services where it is most needed, with a focus on community events and fundraising. The funds raised then support local schools (including special education needs schools), youth organisations and the local NHS.

Spalding Round Table also provides locally-focused financial support for those in need, including high-level donations to the Johnson Hospital, schools, community groups and end-of-life experiences. They also support events such as open-air cinema nights and premier boxing events for local people to enjoy.

Project St. Thomas are a pastoral initiative based in Spalding and are focused on growing community engagement in South Holland and assisting local residents. Regular events are hosted at the St. Thomas' Road Methodist Church building, which is being revitalised as part of a wider charitable project.

Some of their weekly services include coffee mornings, a singing group, and the new initiatives of the 'Tools and Talk' men's support group.

Councillor Jan Whitbourn, Chairlady of South Holland District Council, said: "Having worked in the local community for over 25 years, running the local radio station and working with local schools; I know how important it is to have funds to keep these local initiatives going to support our residents.

"There are many smaller organisations in South Holland who do such incredible work and my aim here is to support them via the Spalding Lions and the Spalding Round Table, whose hard work is so vital to those organisations who are less well known.

"I feel very lucky to hold this position as Chairlady of South Holland District Council and to be working amongst so many wonderful people. I hope for the remainder of my term I can help as much as possible, whether that is through attending events, fundraising or promoting our wonderful community."
