New cash, card and app payment machines now up and running in South Holland council-run car parks
New, more reliable, secure, and efficient car parking payment machines are now operational across 10 different council-run car parks in South Holland, following a significant investment by South Holland District Council.
The 14 new machines, which cost a total of £88,500 including installation and ongoing maintenance, are designed to accept contactless and chip-and-pin card payment, as well as cash and via the APCOA connect online app.
Works to install the new machines got underway at the start of March, and a mixture of solar and electric machines are now operational in the following car parks:
• Spalding, Herring Lane car park - 2 machines
• Vine Street car park - 1 machine
• Holland Road car park - 1 machine
• Victoria Street car park - 2 machines
• Sheep Market car park - 1 machine
• Westlode Street car park - 1 machine
• Swimming pool car park - 1 machine
• Vista car park - 1 machine
• Winfrey Avenue car park - 2 machines
• Holbeach, Boston Road car park - 2 machines
This work is part of the Council's programme of recent maintenance and improvements to take place in its car parks, including repairs, resurfacing and relining as well as work to the footways, trees and LED lighting within them. When relining car parks, spaces will be expanded to the new 2024 British Parking Association standard of 2.6m x 5m where possible.
The change follows feedback from residents about the user-friendliness of the previous machines, with the newly installed units easier to use, brightly lit and connected wirelessly to offer drivers the fastest possible transactions. They are also made from high security steel with anti-graffiti coating to reduce the risk of vandalism against them.
The new machines require users to enter their vehicle registration number to purchase a ticket, before choosing their duration of stay and then having the option of paying via card or Apply and Google Pay, as well as cash and app. The Council's parking pass scheme, with 'Commuter' and 'Shopper' permits, provides the opportunity for regular users of council-owned car parks to save money on parking fees, and can be purchases directly from machines or from the Council directly for longer permit periods.
Councillor Henry Bingham, South Holland District Council portfolio holder for Assets and Strategic Planning, said: "I am pleased we have now got these new machines in place, providing users with a quicker, simpler and less restrictive experience when parking in South Holland.
"We are committed to providing quality, safe and straightforward car parking to our residents and visitors, and this investment is a key part to helping make these improvements."
