District Council delivers record 76 new homes for South Holland residents in 2023/24

New homes in Weston

South Holland District Council has delivered a record 76 new homes for residents this financial year, making quality private and council rental and shared ownership properties available across the District.

The new properties include 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes, as well as 2 bed bungalows, in numerous towns and villages including Crowland, Holbeach, Gosberton, Surfleet, Sutton St James, Weston and Whaplode.

By offering a variety of different ways to offer housing for residents, including rental and shared ownership, the Council is able to meet a wide range of housing needs and aspirations, and help both households looking to take their first step on the property ladder as well as those needing to rent more affordably.

The number of homes delivered is the most successful year of housing delivery the Council has recorded, and new tenants have been keen to share the difference it has made to them.

Claire, who lives in one of the new properties, said: "I am so happy with this new house, I don't think I am ever going to leave it! My children are so excited about the house and I really do appreciate being given this opportunity. I can't believe it's a council house!"

Another new tenant fed back that: "I am so happy with the property and never expected to get such a nice house. This is going to make a huge difference to our family and we will be better off financially."

The new properties delivered in South Holland over the past year are made up of:

•         48 - rented council housing properties

•         21 - shared ownership housing for sale

•         7 - private rented housing through Welland Homes.

Further to their work in South Holland, the Council's housing delivery team has also been working across the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership sub-region to deliver a further 20 new homes across Boston and East Lindsey, through programmes such as the Local Authority Housing Fund.

Councillor Gary Taylor, deputy leader and portfolio holder for strategic housing at South Holland District Council, said: "It has been a fantastic year of hard work and success for our housing delivery team, and we are so pleased to be providing a record number of new homes for residents to enjoy.

"We are very proud to be one of the minority of local authorities still delivering new houses for its residents, and we take a lot of pride in our commitment to providing quality and affordability and being a landlord of choice in the District.

"These homes are much more than just bricks and mortar, and play an important part for the wellbeing of those who need them most. I look forward to what I hope should be another successful year ahead."
