Ahead of the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6 May, South Holland District Council has organised a selection of great festivities in Spalding town centre and Ayscoughfee Gardens over the Bank Holiday weekend.

With less than 20 days to go (until 6 May), a combined effort between the Council's Communities team and Spalding Town Forum has seen a jam-packed weekend planned for residents to enjoy, with a Royal fancy dress competition, live entertainment, window display competition, a live stream of the coronation and much more!

Starting in Market Place and Hall Place, Spalding on Saturday 6 May, the day's festivities will run from 9am till 3pm with additional stalls selling a variety of coronation-themed gifts alongside the usual great selection from Spalding Market traders.

Additionally, a big-screen tv will be live streaming the coronation for all to enjoy, alongside an interactive royal globe and selfie station as well as entertainers including balloon artists, Bubbleologists and stilt walkers.

Following up on Sunday 7 May, the Coronation Picnic will take place in Ayscoughfee Gardens, Spalding between 11am and 2pm, residents are invited to bring their own picnic in the beautiful gardens and enjoy the free activities and entertainment on offer, including live music, face painting, royal fancy dress competition, garden games and vintage rides.

There will also be a coronation window display competition taking place in town centre and a Kings Crown Trail in the lead up to the bank holiday weekend (running from Monday 1 May till Monday 8 May).

Those taking part in the King's Crown Trail will need to find all the images of King Charles III wearing his crown in shop windows, and then list the locations on the answer sheets, which are available in the participating shops and from the Council Offices on Priory Road, Spalding to be in with the chance to win great prizes!

There will be two awards for the window display competition; the judge's award and the public vote award. All entries and business names will be posted on the SHDC_Communities Facebook page.

A South Holland District Council spokesperson said: "The coronation is just weeks away now and we're thrilled that there is a selection of fantastic free events for local residents to take part in and join the national celebrations!

If you're struggling to find something to do as a family over Bank Holiday weekend, why not pop along to one of our great events in Spalding town centre or Ayscoughfee Gardens, there's something for everyone to enjoy."
