The Government have announced additional national Business Rates measures. These will apply from 1 April 2020 and will be subject to State Aid Rules.
Retail Discount Relief
Currently Retail Premises (with a Rateable Value below £51,000) receive a 1/3 off their bills. From the 1 April 2020 this relief will be increased to 50 per cent. The scheme is also being extended to include cinemas and properties which are wholly, or mainly, used for the purpose of live music.

Local News Paper Relief
Offices occupied by Local Newspapers will receive an annual £1,500 discount for five years from 1 April 2020 until 31 March 2025
Public House Relief
Public Houses (with a Rateable Value below £100,000) will receive up to £1,000 in relief for the 2020/21 Financial Year (1 April 2020- 31 March 2021). This will be in addition to the Retail Discount detailed above.
In line with the Government Guidance, we will be updating our Discretionary Rate Relief Policy, to reflect these changes. We will also be taking proactive steps to identify the businesses that are likely to qualify for each of the reliefs, and where able, ensure these are reflected on their annual bills.
