Latest figures show that the percentage of businesses in the district with 3 (satisfactory) 4 (good) and 5 (very good) ratings is 98.3 per cent.

Since October 2016, several businesses have seen their ratings increase up to 5 as a result of working with officers from South Holland District Council's Food Health and Safety team to help make improvements.

And food lovers will also be pleased to hear that there are still no businesses in the district with the lowest ranking of zero.

Of the businesses across the district that are rated:

  • 409 are rated 5 (very good)

  • 140 are rated 4 (good)

  • 56 are rated 3 (satisfactory)

  • 4 are rated 2 (improvement necessary)

  • 6 are rated 1 (major improvement necessary)

  • 0 are rated zero (urgent improvement necessary)

Ratings are determined by the council's food safety officers and show how well a business is doing overall, but also take account of the level of risk to people's health.

Cllr Anthony Casson, South Holland District Council's portfolio holder for food safety, said: "The outstanding current ratings in the district are testament to the dedicated work of our team, but as I always say we will never get complacent.

"The protection of the public is our utmost priority and we continue to work actively with businesses to assist them with standards and help to raise ratings where possible.

"I strongly recommend that members of the public use Food Hygiene Ratings with confidence and enjoy meals out in establishments that take food safety seriously."

To check the Food Hygiene Rating of a restaurant or takeaway, look for the green and black sticker, usually displayed in a window. If you can't see one, just ask.

South Holland District Council also regularly promotes the latest 5 rated businesses on its Facebook and Twitter accounts.
