Council Tax Support Fund 2023-24

Recognising the impact of rising bills, the government is distributing £100 million of new grant funding in 2023-24 for local authorities.

This funding support is now closed due to spent funds

This funding allows councils to deliver additional support to households already receiving Council Tax Support (CTS), while also providing the flexibility to determine a local approach to support other vulnerable households in their area.

The Core Scheme

If you are in receipt of CTS on 1 April 2023 there is no need for you to contact us as the reduction will be automatically applied to your Council Tax bill for 2023-24.

  • Where your Council Tax Bill for 2023-24 is less than £25.00, the application of the Council Tax reduction will reduce your bill to £0.00
  • Where there is nothing to pay for 2023-24 and your Council Tax Bill is nil, no reduction will be available.  Those bills will not be credited

Discretionary Support

Any remaining funding will be made available for households to claim support through a discretionary support scheme.  This scheme will remain in place until the funds run out.  Criteria to claim the discretionary support can be found in our Council Tax - Discretionary Reduction Policy (PDF) [892KB] (opens new window) .
You can make an application by completing the Financial Support Claim form (PDF) [89KB] (opens new window) .
