South Holland District Council statement on Spalding festive market
Posted on 9 December 2020
It is with great sadness that we have had to take the difficult decision that it will not be possible for this year's festive market in Spalding to go ahead. This is always a highlight of the calendar for residents, visitors, traders and the Council, and it is not a decision taken lightly.
This is a crucial time for the country, with the rollout of vaccines due to start soon, and it is as important as ever that we all continue to do all we can to prevent the spread of the virus and follow the guidelines in place. Markets play a crucial role for the opportunity to locally purchase items in an efficient and outdoor environment, but given the District's current position in Tier 3, we should still be doing what we can to discourage any group social gatherings and non-essential travel. Reflecting on the wider national experience at similar events, we would not be able to provide the entertainment and festive experience that visitors would expect and enjoy.
We understand that this is disappointing news for us all, but hope you can understand the reasons why we have had to reach this difficult decision. We look forward to welcoming people back this time next year for the fantastic festive event that we all deserve to enjoy.
