Look Before You Book your Festive Feast this Christmas
Posted on 2 December 2019
With December here and preparations for the festive season well underway, people's thoughts will now be turning to finding the perfect place to celebrate with family, work colleagues and friends.
South Holland District Council is urging anyone planning a Christmas meal to 'look before you book', researching the food hygiene rating of potential venues before deciding to eat there.
The number of businesses with top-ranked food hygiene ratings in South Holland remains at an all-time high, with latest figures showing the percentage of venues with 3 (satisfactory) 4 (good) and 5 (very good) ratings at 98.9 per cent, with 78 per cent receiving the top rating of five and no businesses in the district carrying the lowest ranking of zero.
These ratings are determined following an unannounced visit by local authority food safety officers, who follow national guidelines and are trained to make sure ratings are consistently applied.
South Holland District Council's Food, Health and Safety Team work across the district to monitor standards and offer advice and guidance on good hygiene practices. As well as these inspections, the team work closely with Public Health England to be fully aware of national trends of food poisoning and infectious diseases.
The Council's training company, Environmental Health Consultancy (EHC), also work to help food businesses improve and sustain hygiene standards. EHC offer training and consultancy support to businesses, including how businesses can improve and maintain their food hygiene ratings. More information can be found about their services at www.ehcuk.co.uk.
You can view the ratings of all establishments in the district via a portal on our website, which you can find at www.sholland.gov.uk/Food. If you're out and about, just check for the green and black sticker which is usually on display in a front window or on a wall. If you can't see one, just ask.
