Allowing people with disabilities, or people who share a home with someone who is disabled, to get a reduction on their Council Tax bill is supported by Finance, Benefits and Revenues.

Once received, a home visit would then follow, to confirm the circumstances relating to the application.
Further Information on this service
Once the reduction is awarded, you will need to re-apply each financial year. The form with which to do this will be sent to you automatically. If your situation changes in the meantime you must notify us within 21 days of the change.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for this reduction your home needs to have special facilities which are used by the disabled person who lives in the property:
Your home must have at least one of the following:
- a room (but NOT a bathroom, kitchen or toilet) which is mainly used by the disabled person
- an additional bathroom or kitchen used by the disabled person
- space inside the home to allow for the use of a wheelchair, if a wheelchair is used by the disabled person
The disabled person can be of any age, and does not need to be the person who pays the bill.

Occasionally, a doctor?s certificate may be required. However, do not get one unless the Council advises that you need one, as the doctor may charge for providing this service.
Common Questions
Q. Will someone from the Council visit my home?
A. Yes they will. Please write your telephone number on the application form, and we will contact you to arrange a convenient time to visit you. The purpose of the visit would be to confirm the details that you have provided on the application form. They will always carry an identity card when visiting your home.
Q. Can I appeal if the Council do not grant this reduction?
A. Yes. You need to write to the Council giving the reasons why you don?t agree with their decision. The Council will then reply to you within 2 months.
If you still do not agree with the decision, or the Council has not replied to you within the above timescale, you can then appeal to the Valuation Tribunal
