Stray Dogs
How we provide this service
Reporting a stray/lost dog is supported by Community & Neighbourhood Services, Waste Services.
What to do to get this service
If you find a dog within working hours:
Contact the Dog Warden on 01775 761161 who will collect the dog and take it to the holding kennels.
Hopefully, the owner will come forward but,if not, the dog can be considered for re-homing after seven days.
What you can do to help.
If you feel confident approaching the dog and it is willing to allow you to handle it,
- keep the dog somewhere where it can be safe until the Warden arrives or,
- if it is possible to contact the owner, arrange for them to come and collect it.
If you see one roaming loose:
- Contact the office with a description of the dog and its location or use our online form.
- The Dog Warden will make a search and attempt to catch the dog. The owner, if known, will be notified or it will be taken to the kennels.
Between the hours of 5pm to 8.30am Monday to Friday, all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays, you can contact the on-call warden on 07826 938898 to collect a contained stray dog. Unfortunately they are unable to deal with roaming dogs during these times.
How much will it cost?
There is no charge for this service but a fine and kennelling fees are payable by the owner of a stray.
