Affordable Housing - General Information
How we provide this service
Affordable housing information is supported by Planning and Development.
Providing high quality affordable housing is one of the Council's top priorities. Our Housing Strategy Team works with housing providers, such as private developers, the Council and Housing Associations to get more affordable homes built for local people. These homes are provided for people in housing need who cannot afford to rent or purchase a suitable property on the open market.
New planning policies implemented by the Council ensure that one third of all new homes being built by developers using new planning permissions must be affordable. As a result, the number of affordable properties being built in South Holland is increasing, with a target of 140 homes being provided during 2010/11.
The Council is also producing further affordable housing through its own housing company which will deliver 6 affordable properties this year in Deeping St Nicholas and Tydd St Mary.
