How we provide this service
Information on the Decent Homes Assistance Loan/Grant is supported by Community & Neighbourhood Services, Community Housing.
An applicant must be an owner-occupier aged 18 or over and live in the dwelling as their only or main residence.
The applicant must be in receipt of an income-related benefit (i.e. income support, and income-based job seekers allowance, Family Credit, housing benefit, Council tax benefit (not single occupancy reduction) or a qualifying disability benefit) or have a low income.
Eligible Works
Assistance is available in the form of a loan/grant for carrying out works or repairs to bring the property up to the Decent Homes standard.
Grants are available for works up to £999.99 whilst Equity Release Loans are available from £1,000 to £20,000. For further details see our Community Housing Renewal Policy (PDF).
What to do to get this service
To apply for a Decent Homes Assistance Loan/Grant, you will need to complete a provisional grant application form to assess your eligibility for a survey.
This does not constitute a valid application or give you permission to commence or complete any of the work required.
You will not get any financial assistance if you start work before the council provide you with a formal written grant approval.
