Planning Advice - working from home

How we provide this service

Planning advice on working from home is supported by Planning and Development, Planning.

There is a distinct difference between working from home and running a business from home. Usually, simply having an office at your house with a desk top PC and a phone doesn't constitute 'running a business' from your home. However, if the line of work you are in requires deliveries of stock, storage of stock, regular coming and going of a team or your workforce, operating machinery or mending or fixing machinery or vehicles then the chances are you would have to apply for planning permission.

As each scenario and case is different, it is difficult to cover all the possibilities here on our website. If you are unsure, please contact an officer at the planning department on 01775 761161, who, after listening to the details of your particular situation should be able to tell you if you need any form of permission.
