How we provide this service

Information regarding how to find out if permission is required to erect an advertisement/signage is supported by Planning and Development, Planning.

To speed up the process of determining your application it is better to submit detailed drawings, including colour schemes, sizes and designs, of your signs. This will assist the offices in reaching a decision quicker.

What to do to get this service

If you wish to erect an advertising sign, notices, banners, flags or other forms of advertising, you will need to apply for planning permission. The relevant forms may be obtained from Customer Services.

Anyone is eligible for this service.

How much will it cost?

Usually £95.00 per application.

If you would like further advice on calculating the fee for your application please contact the Planning Department.

How long will I have to wait for a response?

If the planning officer is happy with all the information you have submitted, the process will start within 24 hours of you submitting your application. If further information is required we will contact you immediately to let you know.

How long will the whole process take?

The normal time is 8 weeks. However, some applications may take a little longer depending on how complicated they are. The more straight forward ones could only take 6-7 weeks.

What do I need to provide?

A site plan showing the location of the building or site where the sign is to be displayed and scaled drawings of the signage including colour schemes and the exact location of where you would like the sign to be.

Q. Do I need planning permission to place an advertising sign on my business premises?
A. Yes, you need both advertising consent and full planning permission. If you are in a conservation area you may also need conservation consent.

Q. How much will it cost?
A. Generally it will cost £95.00 per application. Charges may vary so contact the Planning & Development Department for advice.

Q. What else will I need to provide with my application?
A. You will need to provide 4 copies of the site plan with your premises marked in red. You will also need a scaled drawing of your premises showing the advert/signage in relation to the building and also detailed graphics of how the sign will look.
