How we provide this service
Equalities information is supported by Organisational Development.
The aim of our Equality policy is to promote equality of opportunity and fair treatment for our customers, Elected Members, our staff, job applicants, our partners and any people that we come into contact with during the course of our day to day business. A copy of our Equalities Policy (PDF, 34KB) can be downloaded here.
We will aim to make sure that no unlawful or unfair discrimination takes place on the grounds of gender, marital status, sexual orientation, religion or belief, race, ethnic or national origin, disability or age.
We have published a Generic Equalities Scheme (PDF, 125KB) which states how the Council will improve its performance in relation to its duties under equalities legislation and it can be downloaded here. This Scheme is overseen by a Corporate Equalities Working Group.
We will publish the progress we are making with undertaking Equality Impact Assessments on all our policies and functions on a service unit by service unit basis:

The Council has made a commitment to reach level 3 of the Local Government Equality Standard by March 2009.
