How we provide this service
Reporting of a dead animal on the highway or publicly owned land to the Council is supported by Environmental Health, Waste Services is supported by Community & Neighbourhood Services, Waste Services.
What to do to get this service
If you find a dead animal on the highway or any public land we can arrange disposal. We can collect many types of animals ranging from cats and dogs to ducks and foxes. Please report it using our online form.
If it is likely to be a family pet then it is taken to a local veterinary surgery where it is kept for a period of seven days in case the owner comes forward. Any other animal is disposed of by the Waste Services Team.

There is no charge for this service
How long will I have to wait for a response?
We will aim to collect the animal within 24 hours.

Common Questions
Q. What happens to the animal after it is collected?
A. If the animal is likely to be a family pet it is taken to a local vet surgery where it is kept for seven days. If it is any other animal it is disposed of by the Waste Services Team.
Q.Will you take my pet if it dies?
A. No, you must make your own arrangements for disposal with the Vet
