Homelessness

How we provide this service

We aim to investigate all applications from homeless persons as quickly as possible. We offer appropriate advice to people threatened with homelessness. We work in partnership with other housing providers to provide suitable temporary accommodation to people we decide are homeless and in priority need of housing. This service is supported by Housing & Property Service Unit, Housing Operational.

Rent in Advance and Bond Scheme

The Advanced Rent and Bond Scheme is aimed at people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, to help them secure private rented accommodation. The scheme is not for Housing Association or Local Authority Tenants who want to move.

To be eligible to apply to the scheme you must be:

- Threatened with homelessness
- Resident within the District or have a local connection here (for example: family, job etc…).
- In receipt of benefit or cannot afford the rent deposit and/or rent in advance to enter into a tenancy agreement to rent a property.
- You need to be registered on the housing register.
- You are required to have found suitable affordable accommodation and have applied or secured the landlord or agent's agreement for you as a tenant.

How you can be referred

You can be referred to the scheme by a Housing Advice Officer following an advice appointment. If you think that the Council can help you please contact us and ask for an appointment.
