Mutual council home exchange
How we provide this service
A Mutual Exchange (PDF) is where you swap homes with another tenant of South Holland District Council, another Council or a Housing Association. As a secure tenant you have the right to exchange as long as you have written permission from us. This service is supported by Housing, Operational.
What to do to get this service
You can find someone to exchange with by registering your details on our database, you can get a form from Customer Services and we will advertise your exchange in reception. Alternatively you can put a notice in the local shops or press. If you want to exchange with someone living elsewhere in the country you can register with Homeswapper.
Once you have found someone to exchange with you will both need to fill in a mutual exchange application form (PDF).
We will arrange to visit your home and check your rent account to make sure that it is clear.
You must not exchange properties until you have received written permission from us.
Who can apply?
Any local authority or housing association tenant.
How long will I have to wait for a response?
We must let you now within 42 days of receiving your application, whether or not you can exchange properties.
