More than 160 interested men and women came to see what was on offer from district employers, volunteer organisations, education and the armed forces while advice on training and business start-ups was also available.
The event, organised by South Holland District Council’s Economic Development Team in association with Jobcentre Plus, was organised to help connect job-seekers with employers and other agencies which can assist them in their quest to find employment.
A number of live vacancies were available at the fair with employers taking details of potential staff.
Among comments from customers were “this was very helpful and informative” and “please do this again as I always need more information”.
The 17 exhibitors also found the fair, held on 6th October, worthwhile. One said the event had been valuable in “meeting employers and raising our profile in the area”. One tweeted “Great day at the Jobs Opportunity Fair. Lots of interest and lots of information given out. Thank-you.”
Councillor Howard Johnson, SHDC Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: “I am very pleased that the first jobs fair was a great success with a large number of people attending. It helped give job seekers and employers that direct contact and this is something we may look to do again in the future.
“It is vital that we serve the entire district in hosting events such as these in Holbeach, enabling people who live further away from Spalding to attend.
“It has also been a very positive exercise to work in association with Jobcentre Plus.”
Jobcentre Plus was delighted by the response of local people looking for work and training opportunities at the Holbeach opportunity day.
The response from the 164 people who attended was very positive, and many commented on the fact that they liked the chance to get advice on several topics all in one place.
All of the employers, training and guidance organisations have also given a commitment to continue support future partnership events in South Holland.
