Twenty-two councillors have each contributed £50 from the council’s Designated Councillor Budgets scheme to back the South Lincolnshire Competitive Swimming Club and 15-year-old Chloe in her quest for glory.
Most of the money will help pay for the club’s swimming championships and part of the £1,100 sum will help provide equipment for Chloe.
Councillor Angela Newton said: “These championships encourage people to learn to swim and embrace the water. This is an opportunity to help provide something for young people and give them a positive focus.
“We live in an area full of rivers, dykes and drains and youngsters do gravitate toward water. They all love water and it’s important that they have a chance to learn to swim."
The club has 115 members from South Holland and beyond, ranging from learners to county, midland, national and an international disability swimmer. Ages range from four to seventeen, plus some adults.
The club championships involve six galas held from October to December where members can qualify for the county championships which are held in February and March.
A club spokesman said: “The money donated by South Holland District Council has helped fund the club’s championships and enabled us to invite a special guest to our presentation evening in January, which will be an inspiration to all our swimmers.
“Chloe Hannam is one of our most successful swimmers with much talent and the potential to go a long way. She has swum and won medals at the national championships since the age of eleven and is currently on the ASA Talent Development Programme. The money donated will help Chloe enormously in the future.”
