We now have four walking Your Way To Health schemes in South Holland. Long Sutton health walk has only been running for three weeks and all ready we have over 60 people registered. On average around 170 people aged between 34 and 92 walk every week across four schemes. Over 40% of these are people who have had or do have health related problems.
The scheme, developed and devised by Dan Matson, Sport Development Officer for South Holland District Council, has been set up to try to encourage more people to benefit from exercise without the need to attend exercise gyms or invest in expensive equipment.
The initiative, which now has schemes in Spalding, Crowland, Donington and Long Sutton is to expand to Holbeach which will be the fifth walk to the programme.
People have said that they are already feeling an improvement in their overall health and it really has put a spring in their step.
The walks are free and run every week. Every person who signs on receives a walking pack, which includes a stepometer and a map of the walks.
The development of Walks across the District will enable people, if they wish, to do a walk everyday of the week whilst also exploring new areas of South Holland.
