South Holland Homes makes housing history

The first of the new homes to be delivered by South Holland District Council’s new housing company, South Holland Homes, have now been completed and are ready for the first tenants to move in.

Cllr Gary Porter, the Council’s Leader and Chairman of the LGA Environment Board says:

‘The completion of this first pair of homes is is really good news for the people of the district. These are the first pair of homes completed by a wholly owned council housing company anywhere in the country. We are also working on another site and have more in the pipeline. Because of the innovative way we have set up the company we have been able to get £89,000 in social housing grant which is 53 percent of the total cost.’

The pair of two three-bedroom houses at Deeping St Nicholas just out Spalding in Lincolnshire have been built by a local developer Broadgate Homes Ltd. Ian Canham, their Chief Executive, says:

‘Broadgate is pleased to have been one of the first house builders to provide new homes for the council’s new housing company. These homes have been built to comply with the current high levels of sustainability required by the HCA and have also been completed three weeks earlier than the contract period, whilst still retaining the traditional build specification Broadgate is famous for.

‘Hopefully this is the first of many new homes that Broadgate will build in South Holland for the new Housing Company.’

Building started this year on four two-bedroom homes at Tydd St Mary and two three-bedroom homes at Deeping St Nicholas. All six properties – due to be completed this summer - are for rent.
