  • South Holland District Council is seeking your views on whether you would like us to investigate the possibility of establishing a town council for Spalding.

As you will be aware, Spalding does not have a Parish or Town Council.Town Council
    Town Council

The district council has committed to look at whether the residents of Spalding would wish to see such an authority established. We would therefore like to canvass your view before we spend any time and money investigating this further.

If more people are in favour than against us doing this piece of work, and if those in favour represent at least 15% (3,471) of Spalding's electorate, the council will begin a full review, which will, amongst other things, involve investigating the potential cost of a town council and conducting more extensive consultation.

  • The South Holland Jobs Fair takes place on Tuesday, April 4 and offers visitors the chance to speak to over 30 employers and training providers from a range of industries who are currently recruiting in the district.

The popular annual event is being held at the South Holland Centre in Market Place between 10am - 2pm and is organised by South Holland District Council's Economic Development Team in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions.

Representatives from several sectors including the food industry will be on hand to discuss current vacancies as well as offering information about a wide range of jobs.

Visitors can get career advice and learn about the skills needed for different roles.

Helpful hints will also be offered to anyone who is thinking of starting their own business or looking to benefit from training and development opportunities.

Cllr Nick Worth, portfolio holder for economic development, said: "The Jobs Fair has been running for seven years now and is widely recognised as a very helpful event - last year around 400 people attended and we received plenty of positive feedback.

"As usual there will be a wealth of advice and information for anyone looking for work or who wants to learn more about different careers and opportunities."

  • Surfleet Parish Council has applied to South Holland District Council to designate their Parish area as a neighbourhood area.

Neighbourhood Planning offers communities the opportunity to shape future development by creating new policies which are used in determining planning applications.

South Holland District Council will now undertake a six week consultation on the proposed neighbourhood area. The consultation will start at 9am on Friday, January 20 and close at 4pm on Friday, March 3.

Cllr Nick Worth, South Holland District Council's portfolio holder for strategic planning, said: "A Neighbourhood Plan gives people greater involvement and ownership of the plans and policies that affect their area.

"Policies which form adopted Neighbourhood Plans are then used when considering planning applications in the area concerned.

"Neighbourhood Plans can influence the type, design, location and mix of new development and ensure important local spaces are protected for future generations.

"So I would encourage any residents who care about the long term development of Surfleet to get involved and have their say."
