South Holland Youth Council (SHYC)

Following a "political speed dating" event held in the Council Chamber at South Holland District Council on 20th Oct 2005, a group of committed young people volunteered to work on the development of a youth council for South Holland.

District Councillors and Council officers have agreed to support their work. In addition, the Rural Academy (representatives from primary and secondary schools, Further Education colleges in the area, plus the business world) and the Youth Service are eager to support its development.

The Youth Council has direct links with decision makers, including Council Leaders, M.P.'s and M.E.P.'s making sure its voice is heard.

South Holland's Youth Council will strive to develop and see improvements to services and facilities for the young people of the District. Furthermore, it will:

  • Highlight young peoples' issues in South Holland
  • Discuss problems with decision makers
  • Be a voice for young people
  • Improve the image of young people
  • Work with the Lincolnshire Youth Parliament
