Fighting Benefit Fraud

The most common type of fraud committed and detected against the Council is Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit Fraud.

We have a dedicated team at South Holland District Council responsible for investigating allegations of Benefit Fraud. We investigated 478 fraud referrals in 2007/2008. This resulted in substantial overpayments of Housing and Council Tax Benefit being identified. 20 of the more serious cases were either prosecuted, received an Administrative penalty or Formal Caution.

To find out more about the work we are doing to combat Benefit Fraud, and how we can work together to stop it, please see Investigation into Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit Fraud.
