The Equality Standard for Local Government is a framework which local authorities can use to make sure that they are compliant with equality legislation. It is useful for checking that all the work that we do has been carried out considering with equalities issues in mind and how improvements can be made. The Standard was prepared by the Local Government Association together with the various equalities commissions and has 4 main areas.
- Leadership and Corporate Commitment
- Community Engagement and Accountability
- Service Delivery and Customer Care
- Employment and Training
More information about the Equality Standard for Local Government can be found on the Improvement and Development Agency website.
In May 2008 we were externally assessed against the Standard and we are pleased to announce that the Level 2 External Assessment found we are operating well at Level 2 and have developed clear goals for progressing to Level 3.
In 2009 the Equality Standard for Local Government is changing to the Equality Framework for Local Government. The 5 key areas are:
- Knowing your community - equality mapping
- Place shaping, leadership, partnership and organisational commitment
- Community engagement and satisfaction
- Responsive services and customer care
- A modern and diverse workforce
The focus of the Equality Framework is on determining local need, priorities and actions.
