We have published a Generic Equality Scheme (PDF, 144KB)  which states how the Council will improve its performance in relation to its duties under equalities legislation.  This Scheme is overseen by the Corporate Equalities Working Group.  The action plan for this scheme for 2010 /11 (PDF, 45KB)has also been published.  The Council's Generic Equality Scheme will be revised in light of the new Equality Act 2010.  Our Equality Objectives need to be looked at and commented on by community members to make sure that they are meeting the needs of the community.  If you would like to comment on any of our equalities work or would like to be consulted with when they are updated please let us know by completing our Equality and Diversity Feedback Form (PDF, 8KB).



The aim of our Equality Policy (PDF, 32KB) is to promote equality of opportunity and fair treatment for our customers, Elected Members, our staff, job applicants, our partners and any people that we come into contact with during the course of our day to day business.

The Equality and Diversity Annual Report for 09/10 (PDF, 443KB)has been published and outlines the progress made with the Council's equality and diversity aims between 1st April 2009 and 31st March 2010.

The Equality and Diversity Annual Report for 08/09 (PDF, 476KB) has been published and outlines our progress for that year and aims for 09/10.

The Equality and Diversity Annual Report (PDF, 667KB) for 1st April 2007 - 31st March 2008 outlines the work that has been carried out over the last year.  The purpose of the Equality and Diversity work undertaken across the council is to make real improvements to the services we deliver for all members of the community.
