Lower council tax bills issued in August.
In July, the Government capped the 2008/09 budget for Lincolnshire Police Authority. As a consequence, the Police Authority reduced its band D council tax for the year by £69.57. South Holland District Council was first in Lincolnshire to re-set the council tax and produce new bills to take account of the reduction. In total 39,265 substitute bills were produced for the 37,617 dwellings in our area.
The consequence is that the amount we have to collect for council tax has gone down by £1.7million to £33.3million (still £2.2million more than last year).
Although the band D amount has been reduced by £69.57, the average annual reduction in bills for South Holland is less. This is because the average property band in our area is band B - which equates to a reduction of around £54 a year (which is just over £1 a week or £5 a month on a 10-month instalment plan). However, as many households receive discounts, exemptions or council tax benefit, the actual reduction per property is £44.68.
