Nostalgic event a success

This year's 1940's Weekend at Ayscoughfee Hall has been hailed as a success after crowds flocked to the historic Spalding venue.

1940s weekend

People of all ages made the most of the warm weather and enjoyed two days of memorabilia displays, re-enactments, demonstrations, stalls and period vehicles.

Cllr Gary Taylor, South Holland District Council's portfolio holder for community, said: "The 1940's Weekend was another spectacular success, attracting many people from all over the district and even further afield.

"The event provided two days of fun-filled activities and also gave visitors a poignant chance to remember those who fought in the war.

"We've had a lot of positive feedback from visitors, so I would like to thank everyone who came along, as well as the stall holders and re-enactors who took part."

Many guests dressed up in wartime attire and some took the opportunity to dance around the gardens to live music. There was also the added treat of spectacular BBMF fly-pasts on both days.

The event, which is jointly organised by South Holland District Council and the Spalding Memorial Parade, culminated on Sunday with a poignant VJ Day parade in the Peace Gardens, giving visitors a chance to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in the conflict.
