South Holland is the latest community to get involved in the Global Soup Movement which organises live crowd-funding events.

The events, which are supported by South Holland District Council's Community Development team, see people coming together to pitch ideas for improving community life to an audience who vote for their favourite suggestion.

The chosen idea is then awarded crowd-funded cash to help make it happen.

But before all that takes place, judges narrow down all submitted ideas to just four to go before the audience.

A pilot Soup event is being held at Tonic Health at Broadgate House in Spalding on Tuesday, July 5 between 7-9pm and organisers are looking for judges.

Karen Johnson, Community Development Officer for South Holland District Council, said: "After experiencing a Soup event in Sheffield, I was compelled to bring it to South Holland.

"Soup events are fun, sociable evenings which bring communities together. Anyone can be a judge, providing they live in South Holland."

Pennie Raven, who is helping to launch the initiative, added: "Applying to pitch an idea is easy. There's no complicated application form, simply tell us what you want to do."

Anyone can come along to the pilot event, a donation of £5 is requested. There will be freshly-cooked soup on offer.
