Beacon lit for Queen's birthday

A beacon lit up the night sky at Ayscoughfee Hall on Thursday as part of a special civic event to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.

Cllr Francis Biggadike

South Holland Councillors gathered in the gardens of the historic Spalding venue and were joined by members of the Royal British Legion, Royal Naval Associations, Parish Councils and the Vibe Youth Choir.

The group sang the National Anthem before Cllr Francis Biggadike, Chairman of South Holland District Council, lit the beacon.

Many councils and community groups across the country held similar beacon-lighting events throughout the day to mark the special occasion.

South Holland District Council is planning to hold a public event to celebrate the Queen's birthday in June.

Cllr Biggadike said: "I was proud to light the beacon and take part in such a special occasion, which everyone who attended enjoyed.

"We're looking forward to holding a similar celebratory event in June which members of the public will be welcome to attend."
