Queen's 90 birthday celebrations

South Holland District Council is supporting communities across the district which want to get involved in celebrating Queen Elizabeth's II 90th birthday.

Queen

Her Majesty the Queen turns 90 on April 21 and national commemorations will centre on her official birthday weekend in June with a mass street party on the Mall called The Patron's Lunch, a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral and the traditional Trooping the Colour ceremony.

As part of the celebrations, people across the UK are joining in with events organised locally in their own villages and towns.

Beacon Lighting events - 21st April 2016

There is a long standing tradition in our country of celebrating royal occasions with the lighting of beacons. The Queen's 90th birthday is another opportunity for local community groups and parish councils to celebrate this important milestone in her life.

If you are part of a group that would like to get involved in celebrating this way then a helpful guide can be found at: http://www.nalc.gov.uk/library/news-stories/1861-queen-s-90th-birthday-beacons/file

Street Parties - 12th June 2016

Local communities are being encouraged to hold their own lunches and street parties. To help people set these up, the government has revised and re-launched its street party guidance, which can be found at:https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/your-guide-to-organising-a-street-party

If your local community are planning on celebrating this special occasion then please let us know and we can help promote and showcase your activities. If you are having a large event then the Council's community development team can provide support and advice.

Clean for Queen

Local communities were encouraged to get behind the national Clean for the Queen campaign recently. The initiative took place between 4th- 6th March saw thousands of people across the country spruce up their streets and neighbourhoods ahead of the Queens official birthday. In South Holland, several litter picks were carried out across the district.
