Groups can get soup kits

Community groups in South Holland are being invited to encourage healthy eating by applying for free kits to help them make soup.

Cllr Gary Taylor

South Holland District Council has teamed up with Lincolnshire County Council to offer 'Soup Starter Kits' to voluntary and community organisations, as well as schools, health bodies, parish councils and church groups.

The scheme is being run as part of the council's Kitchen Garden Project to encourage healthy living across the district.

The kits, which are each worth £250, contain all of the equipment and information necessary to create healthy, low cost soup meals.

They provide groups with everything they need to set up the regular making and sharing of soup and outline a method for this to be sustained in future.

Cllr Gary Taylor, South Holland District Council's portfolio holder for Community Development, said: "This is a great way for community groups to encourage healthy eating among their members.

"We're confident that the project will have a positive effect and encourage any groups interested in acquiring a kit to get in touch."

To be eligible for the kits groups must be based in the South Holland District.

The kits should be used on a regular basis, to support the group's activities and promote healthy eating. They may be used for fundraising activities but this must not be their sole purpose.

Applications must be made by 5pm on Friday, March 11.
