Warning over green rogue traders

Elderly residents in South Holland are being urged to stay on their guard after reports of people receiving nuisance phone calls and poor service from companies involved in green energy schemes.

Cllr Gary Taylor

The warning comes from the South Holland Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) who are keen to raise awareness of 'green rogue traders'.

They have had reports of persistent phone cold calling about 'free gas boilers'.

Cllr Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for community safety, said: "The calls appear to target pensioners, some of whom have been wrongly told that their current boiler will be illegal unless replaced by the end of 2016.

"The CAB say that this has created some anxiety among elderly, vulnerable householders."

The CAB has also had reports of pensioners receiving poor service after purchasing solar panels.

One client bought panels which were faulty only to learn that the companies that carried out the installation had gone into liquidation, meaning they could not claim on the guarantee.

Another claimed he was harassed into buying panels through a very expensive loan and the CAB was able to intervene and get him a refund.

To report a nuisance phone or poor service contact the CAB on 01775 717444.
