Council Owned Land and Premises

South Holland District Council owns a varied portfolio spread throughout the district. If you need to find out whether a property, premise or a piece of land is owned by the Council you can contact us on 01775 761161. Computerised records are held of all Council assets and we can also look into rights and restrictions over our land by inspecting our ownership documents.

In order to carry out a search on a piece of land or property, we will need the full postal address or in the case of land a map clearly showing the area in question.

If we do not own the land, you can do a land search at the Land Registry, there is a small charge for this service.  All land that has been bought or sold since December 1989 must be registered and the Land Registry holds all of this information.

If it was bought or sold before 1989, and therefore not registered, neighbouring land owners may know who holds ownership.

Q. Can I buy the land from you?

A. If the land is not required by the council, we will consider selling it. Please see Applications to Purchase Council Land for more information.

Q. If the land is not owned by the Council, can you tell me who does own it?

A. No, we can only tell you if the Council owns the land.

Q. Is there a charge for this information?

A. Not at present, but we may charge you if you require maps printing.
