Lincolnshire County Council Elections - 4 May 2017

Elections of Lincolnshire County Councillors will take place on Thursday 4 May 2017. Lincolnshire County Council has 70 councillors elected from the County to make county-wide decisions (such as decisions on education and social services). Within South Holland District there are 9 County Council electoral divisions electing 9 County Councillors. Each councillor is elected for a period of four years. Elections are held every four years on the first Thursday in May.

Briefing Session for prospective candidates and agents

We will be holding a briefing session for candidates and agents on Friday 3 March 2017  at 10.30am in the Council Chamber at South Holland District Council Offices, Priory Road, Spalding, Lincolnshire PE11 2XE.  The briefing will provide information on the election process.

Guidance for Candidates

Qualifications for standing as a candidate:

To qualify as a candidate a person must be 18 years of age and a Commonwealth citizen, citizen of Republic of Ireland or a citizen of another Member State of the European Union and either:

  1. be registered as a local government elector within the County of Lincolnshire; or
  2. have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises during the whole of the previous 12 months within the County; or
  3. his/her principal or only place of work during the whole of the previous 12 months has been within the County; or
  4. have resided in the County for the whole of the previous 12 months.

If you haven't already registered, you can register to vote online at  The deadline to register to be able to vote at the Lincolnshire County Council Elections is 13 April 2017.

If you are unable to vote at your polling station on polling day you can choose to apply to vote by post or by proxy (appointing someone else to vote at the polling station for you).  The deadline for applying to vote by post or to change/cancel an existing postal or proxy appointment is 5pm on Tuesday 18 April 2017.

The deadline for applying to vote by proxy is 5pm on Tuesday 25 April 2017.

Postal and proxy vote applications cannot be submitted online and must be signed and returned to the Electoral Registration Officer, South Holland District Council, Council Offices, Priory Road, Spalding, Lincolnshire PE11 2XE.  Applications must be received by the deadlines above to be effective for the May elections.  Alternatively, signed scanned copies of the application forms can be submitted by email to
