Our first priority is to try and prevent people becoming homeless.
Housing Advice is available to everyone. If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness, please contact the Housing Advice Team team as soon as possible.
If you need help or know someone sleeping rough in Lincolnshire, call P3's Street Outreach Team on 0808 281 0280. No-one should have to sleep rough.
The 1996 Housing Act (as amended by the 2002 Homelessness Act) sets out the legal obligations a local authority has towards certain people who are homeless. These Acts determine the amount of help we are able to offer depending on:
- how you became homeless;
- if you're eligible for assistance (most people who live permanently in the UK are eligible for assistance);
- if you're in priority need e.g. have dependent children or have become homeless due to a house fire.
If you are found to be legally homeless, eligible and believed to be in priority need, then the council has a duty to house you in temporary accommodation while it assesses whether you have made yourself homeless and where you have established a local connection.
If the Council does not have a duty to house you temporarily, we will continue to provide advice and may be able to help you with finances needed to access private rented housing.
Appointments are not needed and we aim to see customers as soon as possible. In an emergency, outside of office hours you can ring 01775 761161 and you will be re-directed to the out of hours emergency service.
